Here’s a bibulous master stroke, exhibited aptly by the team at London’s St Martin’s Lane Hotel.

This neighbourhood was a hotbed of artistic endeavour back in the 18th century, being the location of the St Martin’s Lane Academy opened in 1735 by William Hogarth and home to notable residents including Joshua Reynolds and Thomas Chippendale.

And St Martin`s Lane have continued this rich vein of creative flair with their somewhat boozy afternoon tea, having transformed their exquisitely furnished Den into its own art gallery, with each inventive painting paired with a different canny concoction and tasty treat.

Broken Clock features in two such works, both of which take inspiration from an awfully English pursuit.

This exhilarating snifter, Countryside, is a tipple that doffs its deerstalker cap to the great British gun-dog, pairing a painting of a classic hunting scene with a nutty Espresso Martini, served in a tin mug and inspired by the quintessential snack of the great outdoors trail mix.

It’s a pucker pairing with the afternoon tea’s Flowerpot, an entirely edible ensemble of coffee mousse, chocolate stones and candyfloss.
